The Basics
-
Both PA-dl (“Paddle”) and Puh-DEL (emphasizing the second syllable) are acceptable pronunciations. The platform tennis community in the Indianapolis region calls their sport “Paddle,” so you may hear us use Puh-DEL to avoid confusion.
-
Not really. It was founded in 1969, in Acapulco, Mexico, when Enrique Corcuera, a Mexican businessman, decided to create a game for his backyard. Combining elements of tennis, squash, and platform tennis, the sport we now refer to as padel began to take shape.
-
Not complicated at all. In fact, it is exactly the same scoring used by tennis.
-
We’ve got you covered. We offer the use of rackets and balls for all of our clinics and lessons. And for a limited time, all court reservations include complimentary use of rackets and balls, too.
-
Athletic footwear is required. Court shoes (tennis) are recommended.
-
If the court you’re playing on is booked after your reservation, we ask that you suspend your match in consideration of the next group of players who are waiting. If the court is not booked after your reservation time, we provide a 10-minute bonus window to finish your match.

At NorthPoint Padel, we use the Playtomic app to facilitate the vast majority of our playing. However, we have also started a WhatsApp community with different user groups to facilitate finding matches. WhatsApp is a great way to connect with other players proactively.

No, when scheduling an open match in Playtomic, you can design either a “competitive” match or a “friendly” match. The expectation is that if the match is competitive, the scores will be entered into Playtomic by one of the players at match completion. You can enter scores from a friendly match, but they will not be used toward your rating.
-
When you set up your Playtomic account, a self-assessment will establish an initial rating with a low “reliability” until real matches are played, and the reliability of the rating increases. Playtomic also allows for a “leveling” with a teaching pro to adjust the initial self-assessed rating.
